Brochund's Just Do It - "Nike"
Finds her first deer!

Fall 2008 - Some Hounds work, Some Hounds show . . . and some Hounds do both!

I have been interested by the dachshund working skills and versatility ever since I got involved with the breed. When John Jeanneney (Born-To-Track / Von Moosbach-Zuzelek Wire Dachshunds) came to give a seminar on blood tracking in Quebec City in June I was there!

This is the first year I've been offering blood tracking services to hunters who don't find the deer (or moose) they have shot. They call me and I track it with either Griffin (Ch Brochund's Griffin Mawr SE) or Nike (Brochund's Just Do It). It's called "wounded game search" or "blood tracking".

On November 2nd we received a call from a hunter to help locate the deer he had shot earlier. We had been on two unsuccesful searches already (non mortal wounds) but this was an easy one as the deer had not travelled far before dying. I put Nike on that one and here is the picture of her finding her first ever wounded deer.

Less than a week later, proving that dachshunds can both work and show, she picked up her first championship points at the Moncton Kennel Club shows in New Brunswick going Best of Winners both shows.

There is now a blood tracking association in Quebec, l'Association des conducteurs de chiens de sang du Québec. The main objectives are handler's education, establishment of provincial legislation and hunter's assistance.
