Fredericton 2006 - Earthdog Tests
Griffin receives his 2nd leg ribbon and earns his Junior Earthdog title! Griffin did the breed (and me!) proud. The field is pretty much dominated by Border Terriers but I joked all weekend saying that my MW was goign to show them all how it should be done! Griffin managed to impressed both judges and exhibitors, including Border people, with his work ethics. He's just a great little dog! Since he completed his JE title on Saturday we ran in Senior on Sunday and he did absolutely great, working non-stop for 90 seconds and recalling in time (which only one other dog managed to do as well) but unfortunately he took too long to find the quarry so did not qualified. He worked hard though and never ever gave up looking. He would pop up at either entrance and go back in again and again and again. He managed to get to the rats eventually after I gave him a second command and the judge rattling the cage and the judge was kind enough to let him do the whole routine, which he completed brilliantly. This was the first time he had seen a senior tunnel and on the previous day it had been a whole year before he had gone down an earthdog tunnel! The tunnel design in SE looks something like this. ![]() There are 2 connecting entrances (that's where Griffin had trouble finding the turn, overshooting it), a false den and the quarry is located 30 feet from either entrances. The dog has 90 seconds to find the quarry, must work 90 seconds. After that the quarry is removed and the handler calls the dog. 90 seconds are allowed for the dog to come out and be retrieved by the handler. |
